Our Journey

Yew Tree Futures was developed through the experience and ethos behind Yew Tree Farm School, an independent specialist school supporting children with additional needs through therapeutic, relationship-based, and farm-based education. Over the years, we have seen how a calm, nurturing, and practical environment can help young people who have become disengaged from education rebuild confidence and successfully reconnect with learning.

Through our work with children at primary age, we have supported many students to re-engage with education, transition back into more formal learning environments, develop confidence, and successfully move into specialist educational settings. We recognised a growing need for support beyond school age — particularly for those who require a gradual pathway into adulthood.

Yew Tree Futures was created to provide that next stage. Our vision is to offer specialist re-engagement and post-16 pathways that help young people move towards meaningful futures through therapeutic support, practical learning, independence development, and preparation for adulthood.

Our Environment

Yew Tree Futures is based within a rural working farm environment, providing young people with access to over 40 acres of outdoor space, practical learning opportunities, and calm natural surroundings.

Our site includes:

barns and stables animal care areas outdoor vocational spaces life skills kitchen facilities practical workshop environments small indoor learning spaces for functional skills and personalised teaching

The environment has been intentionally designed to feel different from traditional school settings.

We provide a low-demand, low-arousal atmosphere with small numbers of students on site and high staffing levels to ensure young people feel safe, supported, and able to engage at their own pace.

As a post-14 and post-16 provision, we aim to create an environment that feels more college-based than school-based. Young people are encouraged to develop independence, take ownership of their learning, and begin seeing themselves as young adults preparing for the next stage of life.

Relationships are built around mutual respect, trust, and collaboration, helping students develop confidence, responsibility, and readiness for adulthood.

Looking Towards the Future

Yew Tree Futures has been developed to provide both immediate re-engagement support and longer-term pathways into adulthood, further education, and employment. Our specialist Re-engagement Programme supports young people who are currently unable to access traditional education, helping them gradually rebuild confidence and reconnect with learning within a therapeutic and personalised environment.

Alongside this, we are developing Yew Tree College — a specialist post-16 pathway focused on:

  • preparation for adulthood
  • vocational learning
  • employability
  • independence
  • meaningful progression outcomes

Our long-term vision is to create a provision where young people are supported not only to access education, but to develop fulfilling, purposeful, and sustainable futures.
